November & Men’s Health

Are any of you (or the men in your life) participating in two great men’s causes this month; No Shave November or Movember?

No-Shave November’s goal is to grow awareness by men embracing their facial hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. They ask that men donate the money they typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

Movember (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, “mo”, and “November”) is all about the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of various cancers, such as prostate cancer. … The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”

Both sound like a great way to bring awareness to very serious men’s health issues. If you haven’t heard of them before, check them out and maybe you (or the men in your life) can finish the month participating in one or be ready next year.

We would love to hear about your involvement with either cause. Tell us your story.

Improve Your Mood

Improve Your MoodTo many people, a smell isn’t just a fragrance — it’s a memory. If you close your eyes and imagine a freshly baked apple pie, you can almost smell it! Chances are, the image brings back some memories, too. That’s because the capacities for both smell and emotion are directly linked to the the emotional center of our brain.

Certain scents can have positive effects on our mind and body. They can relieve stress, help bring focus, or ease a headache bringing about a favorable impact on our overall well-being.

Here is a list of scents that will do more than just smell nice:

LAVENDER: Instills a sense of calming and relaxation while bringing balance both physically and emotionally. It eases anger and frustration as well as aid in sleep.

CITRUS: Refreshing and stimulating this blend will help to amplify creativity and well-being as well as decrease stress and anxiety.

JASMINE: Uplifting, counteracts hopelessness, nervous exhaustion, anxiety, depression, indiference, and listlessness

PINE: Relieves anxiety and mental stress. Revitalizes the mind creating an energized feeling and refreshes your spirits.

PEPPERMINT: Energizing, purifying and stimulating to the conscious mind. Aids in easing tension headaches.

Summer Skin Saver

Woman's Foot With Sun-shaped Sun Cream In The Tropical BeachIt’s summer time and who doesn’t want to enjoy all the great outdoor activities that summer affords us. For my family, living in the South and being very fair skinned can make that a challenge. This year I have found something that has been a virtual miracle worker when it comes to either soothing a sun burn and reducing the time it takes for our skin to heal or PREVENTING it in the first place! Believe me, we do not leave home without sunscreen, but our skin gets to a point where it really doesn’t matter how much we have on, we end up with some place that gets a patch of red.

CARROT SEED OIL has been my favorite summer sun saver find!

Here are a few things to know about carrot seed oil:

It is made from the hairy seeds of the wild carrot, Daucus carota. This is not the same plant as the cultivated vegetable in your garden. It has a dry, slightly sweet, earthy aroma.

It is rich in beta-carotene and is a natural antioxidant that protects the skin and promotes healing with skin reproduction properties. It stimulates cell growth and repairs damaged skin making it a go-to for after sun skin care.

Due to its ability to stimulate cell growth and repair damaged skin, it has a reputation for helping to heal eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.

The healing components of carrot seed oil make it a great addition to your skincare regimen whether you are looking for help in the right against wrinkles or simply want a natural alternative for moisturizing.

After our first time out in the sun too long this summer I made up a blend of the below oils. The burn was healed within two days! Everyone’s skin is different, of course but this was amazing for us as once we get a burn it usually takes much longer to heal.

This is what we used as a too much sun after care blend:
Carrot Seed Oil
Lavender EO
Roman Chamomile
Carrier oil like jojoba or almond

or add some with your sunscreen as a preventative.
